Attendance Policy

Attendance Requirements

For ENG 101 and ENG 102 courses, students are required to attend a minimum of 90% of total course hours. Attendance is counted from the first day. Students who exceed the attendance limit will automatically receive an ‘F’ Grade for the course.

For all other FAE courses, students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of total course hours. Attendance is counted from the first day. Students who exceed the attendance limit will automatically receive an ‘F’ Grade for the course.

Excused absence

Late registering students, or students adding a course during the add/drop period, must give a letter from an advisor or the Department secretary indicating the date when they registered.  Once the letter is received and accepted, students will be credited for the lessons missed prior to the date of registration only. Those adding or dropping a course will not be credited for attendance on other courses, and will need to be vigilant as to attendance for the remainder of the semester.

Students involved in University organised activities, such as sport or cultural activities, during lesson time, may have their attendance credited for the missed lessons, provided they produce a letter of notification from the Department.

Those absent for other reasons, including illness, should be aware of how many blocks they have missed. If students think they are going to have problems with attendance, they should talk to their instructor without delay.

Absence for Exams or In-class Assessments

Students who miss an exam or an assessed task need to submit a written petition explaining the reason for their absence, asking to take a make-up exam. Students should go to the Records and Archives Office (Merkezi Evrak Müd. on Main Campus) and fill in the necessary form which the office will provide. If students have a medical certificate, they should bring it with them.

Make-up exams will be arranged for those students whose medical certificates are approved. Other reasons for absence will be considered and responded to on an individual basis.
